Omaha, Neb. – Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) announced today the endorsement of the Omaha Police Officers Association, representing over 900 sworn officers, for his re-election to the U.S House of Representatives from Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District.
“Don Bacon has never wavered in his commitment to the men and women of the Omaha Police Department,” said OPOA President Tony Conner. “We are proud to endorse his campaign for re-election today. Congressman Bacon knows that Omaha citizens support the police and our efforts to keep this city safe. He understands the challenges we face as a community and has the leadership and integrity to lead on the priorities important to our membership.”
Earning the OPOA’s endorsement for the fourth consecutive cycle, Rep. Bacon issued the following statement:
“I love our police and what they do for us every day,” said Rep. Bacon. “I thank the Omaha Police Officers Association for their early endorsement of my re-election in 2024. In Congress, the security of our nation and our communities is one of my top priorities. Omaha Police Officers are on the front lines of that mission in Omaha, and I am honored to have their support.”
OPOA President Tony Conner highlighted that Congressman Bacon’s Democrat opponent, State Senator Tony Vargas, has a poor record regarding law enforcement.
“Congressman Bacon’s opponent, Tony Vargas, has done very little to support police officers and even sided with violent protestors against police during the 2020 riots,” Conner said. “For citizens who value public safety, Don Bacon is the only choice to represent us in Congress.”
The OPOA announced their endorsement with Rep. Bacon in front of their Fallen Officers Wall at the OPOA Hall in Omaha. The OPOA streamed the event on Facebook and video can be accessed here.
