• Statement on DCCC’s Latest Attack Ad On Women’s Healthcare

    Tuesday, November 1, 2016 – Today, congressional candidate General Don Bacon released the following statement on the DCCC’s latest attack ad that completely lies about his position on women’s healthcare: 

    “Nancy Pelosi and Brad Ashford’s latest attack ad is as desperate as it is disgusting,” says General Don Bacon. “The importance of preventative care is an issue that my family and I care deeply about.  I lost my sister Beth to breast cancer when she was just 39 years old. Not only was she a wonderful sister, but she also introduced Angie and I, and was the maid of honor at our wedding.  Her loss was the most heart breaking event in my family’s life, and ten years later I still mourn her passing.  Earlier screenings and care could have saved her life and I want to prevent the tragedy that struck our family from happening to others.”  

  • Don Bacon Campaign Condemns New DCCC Attack Ad

    Tuesday, October 25, 2016 – Today, the DCCC is up on the air with another attack ad that completely distorts General Don Bacon’s position on Social Security and Medicare.  

    The truth is Don Bacon does not support altering or reducing Social Security for those in or near retirement. Don believes we should consider the possibility of adjusting current long-term policies to ensure the viability of Social Security for future generations. Adjustments need to be made or the program will go bankrupt. Unlike Brad Ashford, Don Bacon will be a leader and work to find a solution to this problem. 

    But it’s a FACT that Brad Ashford once called for a 20% cut in Social Security and Medicare, and it’s also a FACT Ashford proposed turning Medicaid into voucher system. This attack ends with questioning if Don Bacon can be trusted, but if you look at Brad Ashford’s record he’s the only untrustworthy candidate on the ballot.

  • Ashford Running From His Record of Supporting Obamacare; Calling on Ashford to Condemn DCCC Ad

    Thursday, September 29, 2016 – Today, Brad Ashford released yet another misleading television advertisement, this time running an ad where he retreats from his passionate support of Obamacare.

    Ashford has repeatedly voted against ending Obamacare. He even bragged to a liberal audience that he “wouldn’t vote 47 times to repeal” Obamacare. (Source: Nebraska Watchdog, Monday, April 7th, 2014)

    The recent departure of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska from the ACA’s individual insurance marketplace provides further proof that Obamacare is a failure for Nebraska and can’t be fixed with band-aid solutions.

    As usual, liberal career politician Brad Ashford wants to be all things to all people,” said Bacon Campaign Manager Mark Dreiling. “When in Washington, he wants to be Mr. Popularity, standing behind Nancy Pelosi in protecting a failed law. When in Nebraska, he tells a different story with misleading ads. Unfortunately for Ashford, it is not his words that matter. What matters are the votes he casts to sustain a law that is now depriving over 20,000 Nebraskans of their individual healthcare coverage. No matter how fast he runs, he can’t escape the truth of his actions.”

  • DCCC Ads Continue to Attack Don Bacon for Opposing Obamacare While Misconstruing His Stance on Social Security

    Tuesday, September 27, 2016 – Recent attack ads sponsored by the DCCC, to include a new ad on radio, have distorted Don Bacon’s platform by implying that he supports an immediate increase in retirement age while cutting Social Security.

    To clarify, Don Bacon does not support altering or reducing Social Security for those who are currently in or near retirement. With the average life expectancy increasing in the United States, he is of the opinion that we should consider the possibility of adjusting current long-term policies to ensure the viability of Social Security for future generations. Like many lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, Don Bacon believes that we need to consider such solutions in order to maintain the solvency of Social Security.

    These attack ads also attempt to scare people by falsely claiming that Don Bacon wants to raise prescription drug prices because he opposes Obamacare. While Ashford and the DCCC continue to rely on these scare tactics, they forget to acknowledge the fact that 20,000+ people are losing their health insurance after Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska announced last week their decision to leave the individual insurance marketplace.  The departure of Blue Cross is further evidence that Obamacare is a failure and can’t be fixed – a law Brad Ashford has voted in favor of keeping

  • DCCC Admits That They Are Trying To Smear Don Bacon

    “For us to allow him to be on TV for a month talking about how he’s a general and getting traction with a compelling narrative, it would have been malpractice”

    Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Executive Director Kelly Ward as reported in Politico.

    Since the day that Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee decided to intervene in the NE-02 Republican primary with over $430,000 in TV ads, the conventional wisdom has been that this was an attempt by Pelosi to come to the aid of Don Bacon’s primary opponent.  In a breaking Politico story, the Executive Director of the DCCC, Kelly Ward, confirmed this assessment with the quote from above.

    The Don Bacon campaign once again calls on Brad Ashford and Chip Maxwell to condemn this manipulation attempt in the Nebraska primary.  The silence from both of them, particularly Chip Maxwell, demonstrates failed leadership and a willingness to be complicit with the Democrat establishment in Washington.  If Chip Maxwell is really concerned about “the establishment” he needs to stand up to Nancy Pelosi and demand that the Democrat Washington establishment immediately stop with their attempt to bolster his candidacy in the Nebraska Republican primary.

    Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats are releasing a second ad as they attempt to double down on their efforts to defeat Don Bacon. In the end, Republicans will reject this Pelosi interference despite the silence of Chip Maxwell. The Bacon campaign is confident that victory will be achieved in both May and November because voters are rejecting politics as usual from career politicians and they want a proven military leader who bring will bring conservative solutions to our nation’s problems.

  • Bacon Calls on Maxwell and Ashford to Condemn DCCC Ad

    “Since Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee decided to intervene in the NE-02 Republican primary with over $430,000 in TV ads designed to favor my primary opponent, my campaign has been flooded with calls and emails from Nebraskans who are outraged that Nancy Pelosi is trying to pick the winner so blatantly.  It is clear that Nancy Pelosi doesn’t want me to be the Republican nominee and is trying to rig the primary to favor Brad Ashford this coming November.

    I call on Brad Ashford and Chip Maxwell to condemn this manipulation attempt in our primary.

    Chip Maxwell has particularly demonstrated failed leadership with this.  He’s the beneficiary of ads paid for by Nancy Pelosi and has failed to denounce these ads and demand they stay out of the primary.   He has a history of criticizing Republicans and undermining them in the general elections, but doesn’t stand up to Nancy Pelosi and her attempts here.

    Brad Ashford should be embarrassed that Nancy Pelosi and Washington Democrats think that his only path to re-election is by trying to manipulate the Republican Primary by using unseemly tactics.   Ashford, Pelosi and the Washington Democrats know that my background as a political outsider and my 29 years of military leadership experience, including serving in Iraq, the Mideast and commanding Offutt Air Force base is far more appealing to Nebraskans than Ashford’s background as a career politician who supports Obamacare, higher taxes and Nancy Pelosi as Speaker.

    I may be new to politics, as this is my first campaign, but I have no doubt that this tactic by Pelosi and the DCCC will backfire as voters in Nebraskans want substance and a discussion of the important issues.   Maxwell and Ashford should immediate condemn the ads and ask them to be pulled off the air.”

    “I wear Nancy’s Pelosi’s targeted fear with pride,” said Bacon.  “The DCCC realizes that the worst threat for them is Don Bacon being nominated on May 10th.  People want a fresh face and they want someone with a record of accomplishment outside of politics.  I have 29 years of proven military leadership experience, serving in Iraq, the Middle East, and commanding Offutt AFB and I am a political outsider who has never run for office before. That is a candidate the Democrats don’t want to face in November.

Brad Ashford doesn’t know national security like I do.  He can’t advocate for Offutt AFB, the largest employer in the local area, like I can.  Our small businesses are shutting their doors and he is doing nothing.  Brad Ashford’s philosophy is to spend, spend, spend, and then blame it on compromise and gridlock.  I will work to change this broken way of doing things in Washington.”
