• I Wear Nancy Pelosi’s Targeted Fear With Pride

Friday, April 22, 2016 – Retired Brigadier General Don Bacon, candidate for the United States Congress, and former Nebraska Governor Kay Orr addressed a full room of media and supporters at campaign headquarters regarding the recent media buy of over $400,000 by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in a desperate attempt to influence the Republican Party.

“I wear Nancy’s Pelosi’s targeted fear with pride,” said Bacon.  “The DCCC realizes that the worst threat for them is Don Bacon being nominated on May 10th.  People want a fresh face and they want someone with a record of accomplishment outside of politics.  I have 29 years of proven military leadership experience, serving in Iraq, the Middle East, and commanding Offutt AFB and I am a political outsider who has never run for office before. That is a candidate the Democrats don’t want to face in November.

I am proud to say that we have a team of 28 local endorsements, including both of our County Sheriffs, Mayors, Commissioners, Senator Fischer, Governor Kay Orr, and many other public officials.  Nancy Pelosi and the DCCC are doing their best to manipulate this race and undermine our party and she is going to fail. Brad Ashford doesn’t know national security like I do.  He can’t advocate for Offutt AFB, the largest employer in the local area, like I can.  Our small businesses are shutting their doors and he is doing nothing.  Brad Ashford’s philosophy is to spend, spend, spend, and then blame it on compromise and gridlock.  I will work to change this broken way of doing things in Washington.”

“I am a consistent conservative like Don Bacon,” said Governor Orr.  “I see in him the same principles, leadership skills, and the same consistent conservative philosophy as President Reagan and I know he is going to win the primary.  Brad will be whatever he needs to be and he will be a consistent liberal voting Democrat. Don is the candidate who is capable of beating him.  He is a warrior through and through.”

“The one thing that I consistently hear from people is their alarm at the dysfunction in Washington.  Our national future is being jeopardized by a government that overburdens its citizens with regulations, taxes, and debt.  We need to seriously address the way we do business and I am putting this plan forward as my platform for what I want to accomplish as the next Congressman from the Second District of Nebraska,” said Bacon.

General Bacon’s plan includes the adoption of a Single Subject Rule for all legislation, a Balanced Budget Amendment, the elimination of wasteful end of the fiscal year spending habits, tightening of transparency and ethics rules, and term limits.

  • Strengthening Our Alliance With Israel

    Israel_Notes

As a staunch supporter of Israel, I will always stand by her side. One of our closest allies, Israel shares our democratic values, embraces the rule of law, and respects the rights of all to practice their religion. Thus, Israel stands alone as a shiny island of freedom in the turbulent Middle East Sea.

Further, as our best regional partner, I feel we are morally obligated to provide the Jewish state with our friendship and support. But it is not a one-way street. America, too, has greatly benefited from this relationship technologically and also when it comes to intelligence sharing and economic investment. We absolutely must maintain close strategic cooperation.

I speak about Israel from a very practical viewpoint. I first traveled to Israel when I was 15. I learned to love Israel’s history and culture. That was not my only contact with the Jewish state. Later, when I served as the Deputy Commander for America’s Third Air Force, it was my responsibility to help Israel put a ballistic missile defense system in place that would focus on intercepting missiles fired from Iran. I am proud of the results we achieved, and I greatly enjoyed the friendships I developed with my Israeli military counterparts. I look forward to traveling to Israel again and being a gracious host to Israelis here in the many years to come.

The current administration has been hostile to the Israeli government and has sought rapprochement with Iran at the expense of Israel and our Arab partners. I will use my voice in the US Congress to advocate for a close relationship with Israel.

Specifically, I will advocate and support the following:

    • The current U.S.-Israel Memorandum of Understanding and its renewal increases our annual $3.1B military aid package to just over $4B. That is in keeping with the administration’s promise of increased support following the Iran Nuclear Agreement. It is important to note that 75% of the grant is spent in the US, helping to create jobs.
    • The continued mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, sharing military technology and intelligence information, while increasing training efforts.
    • Acknowledging Iran as our common adversary. Iran is the leading exporter of terror, and was behind the killing of approximately one-fifth of our fatalities in Iraq. We must not allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons capability, nor the ability to obtain WMD. The recently-negotiated nuclear agreement with Iran was deeply flawed: It will enable Iran to realize its nuclear ambitions in 10 years. I opposed the agreement and will continue to do so.
    • I support sanctioning Iran’s bad actors who are specifically aiding the Islamic Republic’s weapons program and terrorist activities. My opponent, Congressmen Ashford, voted against implementing H.R. 3662: Iran Terror Finance Transparency Act, which would give Congress greater oversight of the Iranian nuclear deal to ensure that individuals and entities that are funding, fomenting, and/or assisting state sponsored terrorism in the region and all around the world are kept accountable.
    • Ballistic missile defense cooperation to include long and short-range capabilities. As part of my work with the Third Air Force, I have first-hand knowledge of Israel’s advances in the missile defense space; this is yet another important innovation by Israel that bolsters America’s defenses at home and at military installations around the globe.
    • Sharing technology to detect tunnel systems. Congress recently appropriated $40 million for a ground-breaking project to jointly develop new technology to detect and destroy the tunnels that plagued Israel in the summer of 2014 and continue to threaten the safety of Jews, Christians and Arabs living throughout southern Israel. As with all great American-Israeli programs, this technology has the capacity to help America as well — to protect threats from terrorist organizations at our military facilities abroad and to combat the threats of underground drug-running tunnels along our Mexican border.
    • Preventing terrorist groups, specifically Hezbollah and Hamas, from receiving weapons from Iran and other hostile nations. Congress recently passed legislation (H.R. 2297: Hezbollah International Financing Prevention Act of 2015) to sanction financial institutions that allow Hezbollah to transfer and use the money given to it by its benefactors (namely Iran). I would continue to support and champion such legislation.
    • Opposing Palestinian Authority efforts to be unilaterally recognized by the United Nations. It won’t be easy, but only through direct, bilateral negotiations, will Israel and the Palestinian Authority solve their differences.
    • Strong diplomacy to encourage Egypt to maintain its treaty agreements with Israel.
    • Recognizing Jerusalem as the legitimate capital of Israel.
    • Maintaining trade agreements, foster increased trade. and use American economic power to ensure that new trade negotiations include a clear directive that countries and companies avoid engaging in the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement instigated by the anti-Israel movement.

I see as one of my most important Congressional duties as strengthening the American-Israel relationship to help our ally defend itself in the most volatile location in the world. The first war Israel loses will be the last war Israel loses. Accordingly, I will do my utmost to ensure this will never happen. Israel was reestablished following the horrendous genocide in World War II, and we must always ensure Israel remains a bastion for the Jewish people.
