  • Ashford Hides Behind Misleading Ads But Doesn’t Want To Debate Before Our Troops Vote

Thursday, September 9, 2016 – Yesterday Rep. Brad Ashford released a new TV ad which claims he has worked to destroy ISIS and that he was against the closing of GITMO. His voting record in Congress contrasts these claims, voting to close GITMO three times while voting in the affirmative for H.R. 2685 which would bar the use of federal funds to fight ISIS, Al Qaeda, and the Taliban.

Mr. Ashford is content hiding behind his ads while avoiding any sort of productive and pragmatic discussion on these issues of national security with retired Brigadier General Don Bacon. After 29 years in the U.S Air Force, including four tours in the Middle East, General Bacon has at his disposal a wealth of knowledge that is imperative to our national security, a primary concern of voters in this district.

Mr. Ashford may like to paint himself as tough on terror via soundbites during commercial breaks, but in reality, he has not shown any interest in debating these issues before early voting commences for military members. With the number of service members that live in this district, they deserve to hear from both candidates on these issues before they choose who they would like to represent them in Congress.

In fact, by refraining from a debate for early voters, Ashford has shown his total lack of interest in informing the same military men and women he likes to pose next to.

“As national security remains one of the primary concerns of voters, they deserve to hear both candidates debate.  Mr. Ashford seems to be content to inform his constituents via misleading sound bites during commercial breaks,” said campaign manager Mark Dreiling.

  • Bacon Launches Television Ad About Reforming Washington

Tuesday, September 6, 2016 – Today, Republican nominee for Congress, retired Brigadier General Don Bacon, released his first TV spot for the general election, titled “Honor Code.”

The ad focuses on the principles instilled within Don Bacon after serving 29 years in the United States Air Force, and how he will bring this code of ethics and service to Washington.

General Bacon emphasizes how the keystone philosophies of the U.S. military as dictated by their “honor code” should be applied to public servants as well. This includes term limits as well as sealing the revolving door between public service and private sector lobbying.

“Don Bacon will bring to Washington, the core principles and code of ethics that are often missing within the political establishment,” said campaign manager Mark Dreiling. “His meritorious career in the service of our country is one rooted in a deep respect for this nation and unlike the current incumbent, Brad Ashford, who has floated between parties in addition to working as a private lobbyist, Gen. Bacon will upturn the status quo by fighting against the failed policies of Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi, policies Mr. Ashford has unabashedly supported.”

    Honor Code
The Air Force has an Honor Code
We will not lie, cheat or steal
    Nor tolerate anyone who does
It’s time we apply those same standards to Congress
    I’m General Don Bacon
    And to shake up Washington,
We need a new code of conduct
Term Limits, because public service shouldn’t be a career
    Ban members from becoming lobbyists
And no special privileges for elected officials
    Because true honor lies,
    In serving others,
    And not oneself
I am Don Bacon and I approve this message.

  • Unacceptable That No Broadcast Debates Are Scheduled Before Early Voting and Military Voting

Wednesday, August 31, 2016 – “With early voting ballots going out on October 3rd, we believe that there should be at least one broadcast debate in the month of September,” said retired Brigadier General Don Bacon.  “Moreover, with ballots for military members being mailed in late September, we find it unacceptable that there isn’t one broadcast debate scheduled in that month.  Therefore, we propose one debate, perhaps on radio to accommodate Congressman Ashford’s Washington schedule, which can be archived afterward so that it is publically assessable to people wanting to hear from both candidates.  As someone who was deployed to Iraq during the 2008 presidential election year, this is especially important so that our troops overseas can hear from those who will be representing them in Washington.”

After two separate letters to Congressman Brad Ashford where the Bacon campaign referenced nine potential debates hosted by credible organizations, retired Brigadier General Don Bacon has yet to receive a response from Ashford’s campaign. Numerous other debate hosts have reached out to Mr. Ashford, but to no avail.

  • Why Isn’t Clinton Co-Chair Brad Ashford Campaigning With Hillary?

Tuesday, August 30, 2016 – Today, Don Bacon, 2nd District congressional candidate, raised questions about why career politician Brad Ashford will not campaign with Hillary Clinton despite being co-chairman of her Nebraska campaign operation.

Last December, Ashford readily endorsed Clinton and subsequently accepted a top spot on her Nebraska Leadership team. Ashford’s Chief of Staff even bragged about “close cooperation between the Ashford campaign and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign” at the Democratic National Convention.

However, due to Clinton’s unpopularity with Nebraska voters, Ashford has been trying to distance himself from Clinton and his role in her campaign. When Clinton visited Omaha earlier this month Ashford did not attend her rally, though later said he would have participated if not for a scheduling conflict.

Last week, Ashford again contradicted himself, saying “I’m not going to campaign with her… That’s not my role at all.”

“Why did Brad Ashford agree to be Hillary Clinton’s campaign co-chair if he had no intentions of ever campaigning with her?” said Bacon campaign manager Mark Dreiling. “If Ashford cannot be straightforward about his support for the presidential candidate he has endorsed, then how can 2nd District voters trust Ashford to be honest about the tough issues facing our country?”

  • More Ashford Clinton Double Speak

Friday, August 26, 2016 – In a recent interview on KMTV, Brad Ashford backtracked on his earlier stated interest in campaigning with Hillary Clinton.

“I’m not going to campaign for her,” claimed Ashford in the interview. “That’s not my role at all.”

-Brad Ashford, KMTV News, Friday, August 26

Ashford’s comments run contrary to what he has told the media about his willingness to campaign with Clinton.

In late July, the Omaha World-Herald also reported that Ashford’s own Chief of Staff, Jeremy Norquist, noted the close cooperation between the Ashford and Clinton campaigns.

“He also noted close cooperation between the Ashford campaign and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.” – Ashford Chief of Staff Jeremy Nordquist, Omaha World-Herald, July 29, 2016

On August 9, 2016, Ashford said he would have attended Clinton’s Omaha rally if he wasn’t on a golfing trip.

Ashford says that if he had been home, he would have attended the rally.” – Brad Ashford, Nebraska Radio News Network, August 9, 2016

“Once again, liberal career politician Brad Ashford says one thing to one group of people and then changes his tune weeks later for the benefit of a different audience.  Contrary to what he would like his constituents to believe, Brad Ashford remains the co-chairman for Hillary Clinton’s Nebraska Leadership Team in addition to being a super delegate that not only pledged his support for Clinton, but went so far as to strongly endorse her this last December.   Ashford’s political double-talk isn’t playing well in Nebraska, but that’s par for the course for liberal career politicians who support the Clinton-Pelosi agenda,” said Bacon Campaign Manager Mark Dreiling.

  • Nebraska State Troopers Association Endorses Don Bacon

Friday, August 26, 2016 – Today, in an unprecedented move, the State Troopers Association of Nebraska issued their first ever federal endorsement, declaring their support for Republican congressional candidate, (Ret.) Brigadier General Don Bacon.  Kurt Frazey, Legislative Liaison Representative of the State Troopers Association of Nebraska, made the following statement:

“Like the members of our organization, retired Brigadier General Don Bacon has defined his life by serving and protecting the citizens with both integrity and honor.  His understanding of public safety, as well as his positions on issues critical to every Trooper’s professional and personal life, make him the clear choice. The citizens of our state will be fortunate to have an individual of General Bacon’s caliber in such an important position. Be assured that our members stand firmly in support of the election of Don Bacon to the United States Congress.”

“I am thrilled to receive this endorsement by these brave men and women who serve and protect the people of Nebraska,” said Bacon. “It is an incredible honor to be the first federal candidate ever endorsed by the State Troopers Association of Nebraska.  As someone who has served in uniform, I appreciate the many sacrifices that our law enforcement make on a daily basis to protect our community.  The members of the law enforcement community put their lives on the line each day to protect our families, friends, and neighbors.  As your next Congressman from the second congressional district, I look forward to serving as a strong advocate on behalf of Nebraska’s law enforcement when I am sent to Washington.”

  • Don Bacon Accepts Omaha World-Herald/KMTV Debate

Wednesday, August 24, 2016 – Today, Don Bacon for Congress accepted a debate proposal from the Omaha World-Herald and KMTV.

“We are pleased to have this opportunity to discuss the important issues with the voters.  We are not sure if Brad Ashford has accepted this proposal.  Regardless of whether he shows up or not, Don Bacon will be there,” said Campaign Manager Mark Dreiling

Earlier today, Don Bacon was on The Matt Tompkins Show on News Talk 1290 KKAR and they discussed holding a town hall style debate/discussion with both candidates.  Bacon accepted the offer from Tompkins.  However, Congressman Ashford has yet to give a yes or no answer to the debate invitation.

  • Don Bacon Receives National Right to Life Endorsement

Tuesday, August 23, 2016 – Last week, Republican congressional nominee for Nebraska’s 2nd District, Don Bacon, secured the endorsement of a leading pro-life organization, The National Right to Life Committee.“I am honored to receive this most recent endorsement by one of the oldest and longest serving pro-life groups,” Bacon said. “They have worked tirelessly to advance the rights of the unborn in an effort to build a culture of life throughout our great nation.”

In a recent statement, the National Right to Life Committee explained their endorsement of Don Bacon:

“You are a strong advocate for life. You support pro-life legislation, including the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, legislation to protect unborn children who can feel pain by prohibiting abortion at 20 weeks, a point by which the unborn child is capable of experiencing great pain when being killed by dismemberment or other late abortion methods.  All voters who are concerned with the right to life and with the protection of the most vulnerable of the human family should vote to send you to Congress, so that you can work to advance vital pro-life public policies.”

“In Congress, I will be a pro-life voice who works to promote a culture of life and I will never answer to the far left wing of the Democrat party led by Brad Ashford and Nancy Pelosi,” said Bacon.

  • Bacon Sends Second Debate Letter to Brad Ashford

Thursday, August 18, 2016 – Today, Don Bacon reached out to Brad Ashford about scheduling debates after Ashford showed up unannounced to Bacon’s event with Paul Ryan. Below is a copy of a letter that the Bacon campaign sent to Brad Ashford:

    “Dear Congressman Ashford,

It was an unexpected surprise to see you yesterday. Thank you for stopping by my event with Speaker Ryan and it was nice to see you again.

The part I enjoyed most yesterday was when we got to discuss the issues. We had a healthy dialogue on some of the key issues, such as your two-time support for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker and your opposition to the REINS act that will eliminate overregulation for our small businesses.

I believe this campaign is about the issues and discussing our nation’s future in front of the voters. Last week, my campaign sent a letter to your campaign about working to schedule nine different debates with media outlets and organizations that have indicated interest in hosting such forums across our district. Our campaign has yet to hear back from yours on this matter. Based on your willingness to come to my event yesterday, it seems like you clearly are interested in these types of joint appearances. So let’s give the voters across all parts of the district ample opportunity to hear the candidates side by side and discuss our vision for the future.

My campaign manager, Mark Dreiling, is available at any time to work with your campaign to get these debates scheduled.  We look forward to hearing from you soon.”

General Bacon sent out the letter at 11:20 AM CST time and the campaign is awaiting to hear back from Congressman Ashford.
