• Don Bacon For Congress Statement on Brad Ashford’s Latest Ad

Saturday, October 29, 2016 – Today, the Don Bacon for Congress campaign released the following statement on Brad Ashford’s latest TV spot complaining about attack ads:

“It’s pretty hypocritical for Brad Ashford to look Nebraskans in the eye and decry attack ads when Nancy Pelosi and her cronies have spent at least $2 million dollars spreading lies about General Don Bacon on his behalf,” says Camille Gallo, spokesperson for the Don Bacon campaign. “If Brad Ashford has such a problem with this, he should tell Nancy Pelosi and her pals to remove their disgraceful ads designed to frighten senior citizens by lying about Don Bacon’s stance on social security and Medicare.”

  • New Poll Shows Don Bacon Leading Brad Ashford

Friday, October 28, 2016 – Today, Don Bacon for Congress released a poll showing General Don Bacon leading Congressman Brad Ashford 47-45. The poll was conducted on Wednesday, October 26th and Thursday, October 27th.  It was an automated survey of 1,482 likely voters in NE-02 and was conducted by Aaron Trost of the Singularis Group.

This comes just a few days after a poll conducted by North Star Opinion Research showed General Don Bacon leading Brad Ashford 48-44. That poll also found voters preferred a generic Republican candidate to a Democrat by the same margin and Donald Trump led Democratic rival Hillary Clinton 44 to 40 percent in the district.

“This latest poll shows voters are continuing to reject the liberal policies supported by Brad Ashford and his pals, Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton,” says Camille Gallo, spokesperson for Don Bacon for Congress campaign.  “It’s clear that momentum is with Don Bacon as voters continue to learn Brad Ashford isn’t the bipartisan he pretends to be.”

    1,482 Likely Voters – 95% Confidence Interval – 2.54% Margin of Error

    Don Bacon 47.40%
    Brad Ashford 45.22%
    Steven Laird 3.99%
    Undecided 3.39%

  • Don Bacon Releases New Ad Titled “One Vote”

Wednesday, October 26, 2016 – Today, the Don Bacon for Congress campaign released its seventh TV spot for the general election cycle.

This ad highlights the difference just one vote can make in Congress.  One vote gave us Obamacare and Brad Ashford’s record shows he will always be a reliable vote for Nancy Pelosi’s agenda.  Unlike Brad Ashford, General Don Bacon will only be accountable to Nebraskans, not political parties.

“Nebraskans know just one single vote in Congress can change America,” says Camille Gallo, spokesperson for the Don Bacon campaign. “After all, it was only one vote that gave us Obamacare which continues to hurt 2nd District families. When the chips are down, Brad Ashford will always be a reliable vote for Nancy Pelosi’s agenda, unlike General Bacon who will always put Nebraskans first.”

  • Don Bacon Campaign Condemns New DCCC Attack Ad

Tuesday, October 25, 2016 – Today, the DCCC is up on the air with another attack ad that completely distorts General Don Bacon’s position on Social Security and Medicare.

The truth is Don Bacon does not support altering or reducing Social Security for those in or near retirement. Don believes we should consider the possibility of adjusting current long-term policies to ensure the viability of Social Security for future generations. Adjustments need to be made or the program will go bankrupt. Unlike Brad Ashford, Don Bacon will be a leader and work to find a solution to this problem.

But it’s a FACT that Brad Ashford once called for a 20% cut in Social Security and Medicare, and it’s also a FACT Ashford proposed turning Medicaid into voucher system. This attack ends with questioning if Don Bacon can be trusted, but if you look at Brad Ashford’s record he’s the only untrustworthy candidate on the ballot.

“The DCCC is once again on the airwaves telling lies about Don Bacon’s position on social security,” says Don Bacon for Congress spokesperson, Camille Gallo.  “The truth is Don Bacon does not support altering the Social Security for those in or near retirement. Once upon a time, Brad Ashford called for a 20% cut in entitlements and proposed turning Medicaid into a voucher system, but the Democrats would rather pretend like that didn’t happen. If you look at Brad Ashford’s real record he’s the only candidate that can’t be trusted to protect 2nd District seniors.”

Congress Hopes Ashford Argues for Budget Amendment

  • National Vietnam & Gulf War Veterans Coalition Endorses Don Bacon

Monday, October 24, 2016 – Today, retired Brigadier General Don Bacon was unanimously approved for the endorsement of the National Vietnam & Gulf War Veterans Coalition. The Coalition consists of 70 veteran organizations and veteran advocacy groups which represent over 250,000 veterans.

“Your leadership and patriotism are especially needed in the House of Representatives at this particular time in our history when our beloved country is at risk, not only from foreign terrorists but also from domestic advocates of extreme social and economic ‘reform.” said coalition Chairman John J. Molloy, OSJ.

“I am humbled and honored to receive the endorsement of the National Vietnam & Gulf War Veterans Coalition,” said Don Bacon.  “I will continue to be a strong voice for veterans care and our national security and hope to bring this message to Washington.”

  • Ashford Should Pull Ad & Apologize to Airmen

Monday, October 24, 2016 – In recent weeks, the Ashford for Congress campaign has been running an advertisement which prominently features a picture of Brad Ashford standing with members of the 55th Wing at RAF Mildenhall in the United Kingdom.

The Bacon campaign is calling on Brad Ashford to immediately take down this advertisement and to personally apologize to the Airmen in the photo for the improper use of their image in a paid political advertisement.

Brad Ashford’s use of this picture violates both Department of Defense Instructions and Air Force Instructions, which prohibits active duty military members of the Armed Forces from being in uniform “in connection with furthering political activities.” Additional guidance put out this year instructs that “installation commanders must decline requests for military personnel or federal civilian employees to appear in or support political campaign or election events in their official capacities.”

The Bacon campaign has reliably been informed that permission was not granted for the use of this photo for political purposes and that the Ashford campaign has ignored requests from service members in the photo to have the picture removed. Several Aircrew members contacted Don Bacon directly saying they did not want to be part of Ashford’s campaign ads.

“Brad Ashford needs to stop using our troops as props in photo ops for his paid political advertisements,” said Bacon Campaign Manager Mark Dreiling. “The Ashford campaign’s flimsy excuse that the photo was taken by a member of Brad Ashford’s family and that it is slightly blurred does not make this acceptable. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, he should be aware of such rules and apologize to the Airmen appearing in the ad without their consent.”

  • Don Bacon Releases New Ad Titled “Joyce”

Today, the Don Bacon for Congress campaign released its sixth TV spot of the general election cycle. The ad is a testimonial from Joyce Stepanek, grandmother of Navy SEAL Caleb Nelson who was killed in Afghanistan.

“I’m grateful to Joyce for her friendship and wise counsel.  Our nation owes a debt that can never be paid to families like hers,” said retired Brigadier General Don Bacon.  “Joyce’s grandson, Caleb Nelson, is a true American hero who made the ultimate sacrifice in order to fulfill the promises that our country was founded upon.  As leaders, we have a moral obligation to maintain those promises made to our citizens.  Obligations by our government, such as maintaining the solvency of Social Security, are not open to renegotiation.  Too many brave men and women have paid for those promises with their lives.  As your next Congressman, you can count on me to always do what is right and fight for our citizens, regardless of political gain.

  • Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert Endorses Don Bacon for Congress

Today, congressional candidate and retired Brigadier General Don Bacon received the endorsement of Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert.  Mayor Stothert is serving her fourth year in the office and is the city’s first woman to be elected as Mayor.

“I am proud to endorse Don Bacon for the United States Congress. As an Air Force General, Don has the national security expertise that is needed during a time when this country faces threats from every corner of the globe,” said Mayor Jean Stothert.  “I am confident that when Don is elected, he will tackle Washington’s out of control government spending and fight to reduce taxes so that Nebraskans can keep more of their hard earned money.  General Bacon was a strong leader in the military and I have no doubt he will be a strong leader in Congress.”

“I thank Mayor Jean Stothert for her trust and endorsement.  I also thank her for her strong leadership as the Mayor of our largest city in the state,” said General Don Bacon.  “I’ve studied leadership my whole adult life, and worked with many superb leaders during my three decades in the Air Force. Jean Stothert leads with character, strong vision, and a tremendous work ethic. Omaha is the best place to live in our nation and she continues to make it even better.”

  • Don Bacon Releases New Ad Titled “372 Miles”

Monday, October 17, 2016 – Today, the Don Bacon for Congress campaign released its fifth TV ad of the general election cycle.

The ad highlights Brad Ashford’s shocking debate meltdown where he admitted he did not know that Bellevue was on the ISIS “kill list.” Whether it is a direct threat or the possibility of an ISIS-inspired lone wolf attack, Nebraska leaders need to take all threats seriously. Unlike Brad Ashford, retired Brigadier General Don Bacon has the knowledge and experience necessary to keep Nebraskans safe.

“How can Nebraskans expect Brad Ashford to keep them safe when he didn’t even know ISIS was targeting his own backyard?” says Camille Gallo, spokesperson for Don Bacon for Congress.  “Nebraskans deserve a leader like Don Bacon, who recognizes the threats facing this country, not someone like Brad Ashford, who is oblivious to them.”

  • Sixteen Nebraska Sheriffs Endorse Don Bacon for Congress

Thursday, October 13, 2016 – Today, Retired Brigadier General Don Bacon announced that fourteen additional Nebraska Sheriffs have joined Douglas County Sheriff Tim Dunning and Sarpy County Sheriff Jeff Davis in officially endorsing his bid for Congress. Douglas County Sheriff Tim Dunning, Sarpy County Sheriff Jeff Davis, and Washington County Sheriff Mike Robinson were on hand for the press conference.

“The minute I met Don Bacon, I saw a leader who was willing to take a stand,” said Sheriff Tim Dunning.  “That impressed me and I was immediately on board. During a recent debate, General Bacon asked Brad Ashford if he was aware that Bellevue was one of the targets on an ISIS kill list.  Everyone watching the debate saw the deer in the headlights look on Brad Ashford’s face. Considering the wide news coverage of this issue, it was shocking to realize that our representative was completely unaware and that he isn’t paying attention.  Under Don Bacon’s leadership, we can rest assured that he will always be up to the task when it comes to serious threats to our community.”

“I am here today representing a larger group of Sheriffs from across Nebraska in supporting Don Bacon,” said Sheriff Jeff Davis.  “When Brad Ashford was Chairman of the Judiciary Committee in the Unicameral there were problems that the legislature was aware of regarding corrections that could have been addressed.  Under Brad’s leadership nothing got done. Now, he is in Washington voting to close GITMO.  Public safety is everybody’s job and under Don Bacon we will get the job done.”

“Law enforcement has been under attack,” said Sheriff Mike Robinson. “When I hear the rhetoric coming from the Clinton campaign and the silence of Brad Ashford, I had to get involved.  Our officers are protecting the public and they deserve support.  Don Bacon is the type of leader who will support our law enforcement community.”

“I appreciate the 16 Sheriffs who have come forward to support me and I appreciate the job they are doing in protecting Nebraska,” said General Don Bacon.  “These law enforcement professionals protect and serve over 875,000 of our fellow citizens.  They and their deputies put their lives on the line every day and I am proud to stand side by side with them.”

The sixteen Sheriffs supporting Don Bacon include:

Burt County Sheriff Bob Pickell, Butler County Sheriff Marcus Siebken, Cass County Sheriff Bill Bruggemann, Cedar County Sheriff Larry Koranda, Colfax County Sheriff Paul Kruse,  Cuming County Sheriff Brad Boyum, Dakota County Sheriff Chris Kleinberg, Dixon County Sheriff Don Taylor, Dodge County Sheriff Steve Hespen, Douglas County Sheriff Tim Dunning, Madison County Sheriff Vern Hjorth, Pierce County Sheriff Rick Eberhardt, Sarpy County Sheriff Jeff Davis, Saunders County Sheriff Kevin Stukenholtz, Sioux County Sheriff Chad McCumber, and Washington County Sheriff Mike Robinson

Don Bacon previously received the endorsement by the State Troopers Association of Nebraska.
