• Don Bacon Announces Congressional Bid In Nebraska’s 2nd District

Tuesday, March 24, 2015 – Brigadier General (Retired) Don Bacon, today announced his candidacy for Congress in Nebraska’s 2nd District.

“A year and a half ago I decided it was time to retire early from the Air Force… I was still eligible for a second star, and could have had one more assignment as a one-star even if not promoted. But, Washington D.C and career politicians were taking our great nation the wrong direction on so many fronts. I realized that my desire to serve our nation and Constitution would require a different path than the military route,” said Bacon.

Don has extensive military experience. He joined the Air Force in 1985 and served for over 29 years, retiring as a Brigadier General. He served in the intelligence, electronic warfare, reconnaissance and public affairs career fields and had 16 assignments all over the world. He commanded twice at the wing level, to include at Ramstein Air Base in Germany and Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. He also commanded one group, one squadron, and one expeditionary squadron. He deployed four times during his career to the Middle East to include commanding an electronic warfare squadron during the invasion of Iraq and a year-long tour to Baghdad during the surge in 2007-2008

“I’m convinced that career politician Brad Ashford will not bring the conservative change we need to Washington. Nebraska does want our elected officials to be civil and respectful, and I promise to be that way. But our district also wants someone who has the principles and the commitment to tackling the issues that are undermining our national and economic security,” said Bacon.

Don is active in the Nebraska community, serving in such capacities as the Vice President for the Air Force Association Aksarben Chapter, Chaplain for the Nebraska Military Officers Association and serving on the board for the Salvation Army’s Kroc Center. Bacon has not sought elected office before.

“We need a conservative outsider to change Washington. I’m not a career politician. I’ve never sought public office before. We can’t depend on the same people who got us in to this mess to get us out of it. To change Washington, we need new leadership with moral courage to make tough decisions. That’s why I’m running for Congress,” said Bacon.
